The Jamdani Weavers of Dhaka

Jamdani weaving is famously described as 'woven air.' In a small workshop outside Dhaka, Rafiq Ahmed and his sons work on a pit loom, meticulously weaving discontinuous extra weft threads to create delicate motifs. A single sari can take up to six months to complete. Rafiq’s dedication to this UNESCO-recognized intangible cultural heritage ensures that the art of genuine Jamdani does not fade.
